100th Day of School Ideas for Reading
Work on letter sounds, CVC words, word families, fluency and more with these 100th Day of School ideas for reading!
100 Rhyming Words
Give your students plenty of rhyming practice with this engaging 100 rhyming words activity! Students will match 50 pairs of rhyming words, 100 words in all! This makes a great independent activity, or you can use the rhyming cards whole class or in small groups.
Pocket Chart Sentences
For this 100th Day of School idea, students build and read these pocket chart sentences, and then match each ten frames card to the correct sentence. After building each sentence, they will complete the response page by filling in the missing word.
We Can Decode 100 Words
In kindergarten, we focus on decoding CVC words, but this activity gives students practice decoding a wider variety of words using the sounds they’ve already learned.
To prepare, I create the anchor chart ahead of time with the title and numbers. During our whole-group mini lesson, I write a word on the chart, and together we decode it. Then, I add another word for us to work through as a class. We don’t try to tackle all 100 words at once—instead, I spread the decoding practice throughout the day, and sometimes across several days.
Color by Code Literacy Activities
These free color by code activities are a great way for students to work on sight words and short vowels. The best part? They are super versatile so you can use them as morning work, centers, or as an early finisher activity. Grab your 100th Day Color by Code FREEBIE here!
Letter Grab
Give your students a fun way to practice letter names and sounds with this “Letter Grab” activity!
Fill a bag with 100 letters (uppercase and lowercase). These can be alphabet cards, magnetic letters, or foam letters. Have students sit in a circle and take turns pulling a letter from the bag. Each student names the letter and says its sound. To make it more challenging, ask them to share a word that begins with that sound.
Word Families
This is a fantastic whole-class activity that requires just anchor chart paper, markers, and a few word families in mind.
Begin with one word family and have students brainstorm all the words they know that belong to it. You can write the words yourself or pass the pen around so each student can tap out and map the words. Continue with additional word families until you’ve built a complete list of 100 words.
100th Day Emergent Reader
Give your students a simple way to practice reading strategies with this 100th Day of School emergent reader. Just print, cut, and staple! Students can color each page and keep their book in their book box for ongoing fluency practice.

Students will love counting to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s with these highly engaging 100th Day of School ideas for math!
100th Day Gumball Craft
This is one of my favorite 100th Day of School ideas and I know that holds true for our little learners as well. With bingo dotters in hand, students will count to 100 either by 1s, 5s, or 10s, as they dab each circle of their 100th day gumball craft.
100th Day Crown
Another awesome 100th day math craft is this 100th Day crown! Simply prep strips of construction paper that measure 3″ x 18.” The students color the school house and each school bus. Then, they sequence the numbers by 10s as they glue the buses onto their strip of construction paper. Last, measure around the students heads and staple!
100th Day Necklace
This is one of those 100th Day of school ideas that is an absolute must! First, the students count 100 Fruit Loops by placing each piece of cereal on their ten frames counting mat. Next, they strengthen fine motor skills by stringing them onto a piece of curling ribbon. For five tips on making your 100th Day necklaces without the stress, head to this post!
Build the Number 100
For this 100th Day of School idea, I like to make bins of everyday classroom manipulatives, including pattern blocks, building bricks, popsicle sticks, snap cubes, and more. Then, the students will build the number 100, using each manipulative. For a guided building activity, print this pattern block work mat and have students build the number 100 with pattern blocks. Then, they can record how many of each shape they used, including how many shapes in all.
100 in a Line
A fun way to practice counting to 100 is with this “100 in a Line” game. Give students teddy bear counters, linking cubes, chain links, or any other small manipulatives. Have them line up their items until they reach 100. Once complete, students can compare the lengths of each line to see which set of 100 is longer or shorter.
How Much Does 100 Weigh
Ask students to bring in a collection of 100 items. On the day of the celebration, the students will weigh their collection of 100 items using a balance scale and teddy bears, pattern blocks, and linking cubes.

100th Day of School Ideas for Writing
It’s always fun to weave in some writing during our 100th Day celebration. Here is a look at all of the 100th Day of School ideas for writing.
100 Year Old Writing Craft
Students have a blast pretending to be 100 with this fun 100-Year-Old writing craft! They choose from one of four writing prompts and then create their very own 100-year-old character to complete the activity. For step-by-step directions head to this post!
100th Day Writing Prompts
A simple way to weave writing into your 100th Day celebration is with these writing prompts. With six different prompts to choose from, students can share their ideas in creative and meaningful ways.
To begin, we brainstorm ideas for the writing prompt on an anchor chart.
Then, students write and illustrate their own pages. Finally, I like to compile the finished pages, add a cover, and bind them into a class book that everyone can enjoy.
100 Words We Know
This activity can be done in a couple of different ways. Each student might contribute five or six words to the “100 Words We Know” anchor chart. Alternatively, you can complete it together as a whole class, recording the words students share while ensuring no duplicates are added.
100 Write the Room
For this 100th Day activity, the students will write the room as they collect the items needed to make a special 100th Day snack!
Beat the Clock
Challenge your students to write their name as many times as they can in 100 seconds—just set a timer and let them go!
100 Autographs Book
One of my favorite 100th Day of School ideas happens at the end of our celebration—kindergarten students gather in the gym to collect 100 autographs from their friends!
100th Day of School Ideas for Fine Motor
Strengthen fine motor skills during your 100th Day celebration with these fine motor 100th Day of School ideas!
100 Stickers
To help strengthen the pincer grasp and hand-eye coordination, students stick 10 groups of 10 stickers onto each space of their sticker mat.
100 Punches
Students punch 10 punches on each page of their “100 Punches for the 100th Day” punch book with this fine motor 100th Day activity. A handheld hole punch works great for this station; but for added fun, I like to have a variety of shape punchers available as well.
100 Punch Out
I like to combine this “100 Punch Out” printable with the 100 punches booklets. When the students finish punching all 100 punches, they practice tracing and writing the number 100.
Number 100 Lacing Cards
Lacing is a wonderful activity for building fine motor control. For this 100th Day of School idea, students will lace each numeral in the number 100. Simply print the numbers on card stock, laminate them for durability, punch holes with a standard hole punch, and attach a brightly colored shoelace to the top of each one.
Dab the Number 100
This is a quick fine motor activity where students dab the number 100 using a cotton swab dipped in paint.
#100 Creations
This fine motor craft is full of creative possibilities! Just die cut the numbers 1, 0, and 0 for each student, then provide a large sheet of construction paper. Students glue the numbers onto their paper and use their imaginations to draw around and incorporate them into a picture. Their creativity really shines through with this activity, and it’s always so fun to see the unique designs they come up with!
100th Day of School Ideas for Gross Motor
Fine motor skills are important, but don’t forget to build in gross motor practice too! Here are some of my favorite gross motor 100th Day of School ideas.
100 Exercises
Get students up and moving as they count by 10s to 100 with this exercising to 100 gross motor activity. For this activity, the students will complete 10 reps of 10 different exercises.
Number Hunt
For this activity, hide numbers 1–100 around the classroom using number cards, magnetic numbers, foam numbers, numbered stickers, or anything you have on hand. Students then go on a number hunt, gathering the numbers in a bin or basket. Once all the numbers are collected, work together to place them in order on a pocket chart or hundreds chart.
100 Cups Tower
Using 100 plastic cups, students team up to see who can build the tallest structure. It’s a hands-on challenge that encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and a little friendly competition!
100th Day of School Ideas for Early Finishers
If students finish a station early, I always like to have some fast finisher activities prepped and ready to go. Here is a peak at my go-to 100th Day of School ideas for early finishers.
Number 100 Maze
For this early finisher activity, students complete the maze by finding and marking the number 100. I like to keep a stack of these 100th Day mazes in a tub so fast finishers can easily grab one and work at their seats.
Spot the Number 100
“Spot the Number 100” is a quick early finisher activity that can be placed inside a basket or bin for students to easily grab. To complete the activity, the students will use bingo daubers to dot the number 100.
Number 100 Spin and Trace
This “Number 100 Spin and Trace” activity is a great way to practice number formation. The students will spin the spinner and use a crayon, pencil, and marker to trace each number 100.
Roll and Race to 100
For this early finisher activity, you will need a printable hundreds chart, a foam die, and 1-2 counters. If a student is playing alone, they will roll the die and move their counter until they reach the number 100.
For added fun, the students can race a friend to the number 100. The students will take turns rolling the die and moving their counter that many spaces. The first to 100 wins!
100th Day of School Ideas for Snack
Snack time gets a special twist for the 100th Day of School! Each student gets a napkin and a baggie with a fun-size Twix bar and two Fudge Stripe cookies. Before enjoying their treat, they use the goodies to build the number 100 right on their napkin.

As a dedicated Kindergarten teacher for nearly 20 years, I believe the words “fun, play, and creativity” can sit right alongside the words “developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.” Learning is meant to be fun and messy!
