Valentine’s Mosaic Heart Craft for Kids
Since creating this Valentine’s mosaic heart craft is easy for students, it has quickly become one of my go-to activities for our classroom Valentine’s Day party. This Valentine’s craft not only makes the perfect party station, it also makes a great keepsake for your students’ loved ones. As the students are busy arranging and gluing shapes onto their large, foam heart, their fine motor skills get a little workout! Plus, this Valentine’s Day craft is simple enough for our preschool and kindergarten students!

Valentine’s Mosaic Heart Craft Supplies
Before creating the Valentine’s mosaic heart craft, you will need to gather a few supplies that you may already have on hand:
- Foam hearts
- Foam sheets (pink, purple, red, white)
- Magnetic tape
- Aleene’s Tacky Glue
- Cotton swabs
Valentine’s Mosaic Heart Craft Directions
First, you will need to cut a variety of regular and irregular shapes using a mix of pink, purple, red, and white foam sheets.
To save a little extra time, I like to enlist the help of a classroom volunteer to prep the mosaic pieces ahead of time. This will help make creating the Valentine’s mosaic heart craft a lot quicker during your Valentine’s Day party stations.
At each table, I place baskets of the different colored, pre-cut shapes so the students can easily grab the colors they would like to use on their heart craft.
Once each student has their large, foam heart, it is time to create our Valentine’s mosaic heart craft masterpiece!
I start by adding a dollop of Aleene’s Tacky Glue to the center of each heart. Then, I demonstrate how to spread out the glue using a cotton swab. It works the best to have the students spread the glue over the entire heart before adding any mosaic pieces (not shown).
Next, we affix the shapes to our hearts. We talk about how to leave a small space between each shape as we arrange and glue them. To help make the mosaic pieces stand out from the foam heart, I also explain to only use pieces that are not the same color as their heart.
Once all of the shapes are added to the Valentine’s mosaic heart craft, it is time to set them out to dry.
Last, we add a small strip of magnetic tape to the back of the Valentine’s mosaic heart craft so the students can hang them on their fridge or any other magnetic surface at home.
This simple and quick heart craft has always been one of my students’ favorite Valentine’s Day party stations!
It is not only easy for students to create in a short amount of time, it is also easy for classroom volunteers to understand and help students put together. Plus, it makes a great keepsake for loved ones to display for Valentine’s Day each year!
