Valentine’s Day Centers
Celebrate Valentine’s Day, as you review math and literacy skills, with “The Case of the Vanishing Valentines” Valentine’s Day Escape Room!
Set the stage with a note from Cupid!
Poor little Cupid,
Worked so hard,
To make each of his friends,
A pretty card.
He turned around,
And they were gone!
He noticed animal prints,
Across the lawn.
Who took the cards,
And where did they go?
Complete each challenge,
And you will know!
Now that you have everything ready, let your students dive into crafting their case files! Grab some file folders or fold a big sheet of construction paper in half.
While the students color the cover, secure the “Suspect Elimination” sheet inside the folder using staples. Afterward, they can affix the covers to the outside of the folder with glue.
Just like true detectives, these case files will store all their completed Valentine’s Day activities!
Valentine’s Day Centers Set Up
Getting the Valentine’s Day centers ready is a piece of cake! Simply prepare your centers with the Valentine’s challenges.
You can either place each activity inside a tub or, for a touch of authenticity, tuck them into manila envelopes.
Cracking the case involves tackling six or eight different Valentine-themed math and literacy centers.
With every completed challenge, the students earn a clue from the culprit, leading to the elimination of a suspect after each challenge.
After finishing all the centers, they’ll have narrowed down the suspects to just one!
Prefer not to turn the challenges into escape room centers? No worries! Just use them as regular math and literacy centers without the mystery twist!
Valentine’s Day Centers for Literacy
Here’s a quick look at all of the literacy activities.
At the “Love Note Challenge”, the students sort the pictures by syllables.
As they complete the “Flower Challenge,” the students listen for the beginning digraph, and match the flower to the correct vase.
To solve the “Cupid Challenge,” they will stretch out the word and identify the missing middle sound.
Last, they will build each sentence, write the missing word, and color the hearts to match at the “Heart Challenge.”
Valentine’s Day Centers for Math
I love the literacy activities, but I might just love these math ones even more. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s included.
When the students reach the “Bee Challenge,” they will decompose the number 10 by counting the hearts and writing the number sentence.
The students count the sprinkles on each cookie to find the sum and complete the number bond at the “Cookie Challenge.”
At the “Arrow Challenge,” they use the number line to find the number before and after the number inside the heart.
And last but not least, the students will roll a die, and cover the corresponding 3D shape at the “Key Challenge.”

As a dedicated Kindergarten teacher for nearly 20 years, I believe the words “fun, play, and creativity” can sit right alongside the words “developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.” Learning is meant to be fun and messy!
