Apple Week is one of my favorite September themes! This simple torn paper apple craft is perfect for the beginning of the school year! Students are able to strengthen their fine motor skills, as they tear and glue each torn piece of paper. Preschool, kindergarten, and even first grade students will enjoy this fall craft. Be sure to pair it with your favorite apple books and apple investigation activities!

Torn Paper Apple Craft Directions
For this torn paper apple craft, I start by tracing an apple shape onto a piece of 9×12 black construction paper for each student.
First, I give the students a small square of green and brown paper for the leaf and stem. I show the students how to carefully tear the paper into smaller pieces.
Based on their apple color preference, I give each student a large square of red, yellow or green construction paper.
Again, I model how to tear the paper into small pieces. This is great fine motor practice!
Then, I model how to glue the pieces inside the apple using a glue stick. I explain the word โoverlapโ and that there shouldnโt be any black showing.
Once the inside of the apple is completely covered, we are ready to add a simple sentence to the top of the paper.
Torn Paper Apple Craft Sentences
If you’ve been around for awhile, then you know I am all about crafts with a purpose. This torn paper apple craft allows students to practice not only fine motor skills, but also sentence structure and high frequency words!
The final step involves adding a sentence to the top, where they highlight their favorite apple flavor. These FREE sentences can be found at the bottom of this post.
First, they trace the words in the sentence.
Then, they cut it apart and practice mixing and fixing the sentence before gluing it down. As we are creating our sentences, we discuss the importance of a capital letter at the beginning, punctuation at the end and spaces between words.
Last but not least, have students write their name on the front or back of their paper using a white crayon.
