St. Patrick’s Day Activities: Read Alouds
One of my favorite ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the classroom is with a variety of St. Patrick’s Day read alouds. We pair these St. Patrick’s Day books with crafts, math activities, literacy centers, and more!
How to Catch a Leprechaun
Before introducing our How to Catch a Leprechaun craft & writing activity, I read the book How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace.
Then we spend some time as a whole class brainstorming some ways to catch the sneaky leprechaun before students go off to complete their own procedural writing piece.
At the end, students assemble this adorable “How To Catch a Leprechaun” craft and attach their writing piece to the belly!

Ten Lucky Leprechauns
Another St. Patrick’s Day book I love to read is Ten Lucky Leprechauns! This book is great for incorporating a little extra math into your St. Patrick’s Day lessons!
After we read this book once, we go back to reread the story but this time, I have the students act out the story using a ten frame and counters.

We stop along the way, modeling the story with our ten frame and recording the number sentence on our response sheet
