Classroom Glow Day Decorations
In order to have a memorable classroom Glow Day, I add a few magic touches with some Glow Day decorations! Here are some of my classroom Glow Day must-haves that allow you to easily transform your classroom into a glowing wonderland.
LED Blacklight Bar
A few LED blacklights are a must, as these are what will give your classroom that fluorescent glow! The blacklights in this three-pack are lightweight so you can easily hang them in your classroom or set them on a small table. I like to place one blacklight at each center. Depending on the size of your classroom, three or four bars should be enough to produce an unforgettable glowing effect!
Before purchasing the blacklights, you may want to ask families if they have blacklights you can borrow for the day.
Neon Party Signs
This “Let’s Glow!” neon banner and party pack is a great way to really set the scene. For a more affordable option, you can pick one of three banner options from this classroom Glow Day activities pack and simply copy on neon colored card stock.
Glow in the Dark Decorations
Another great decor option for your classroom Glow Day is this glow in the dark garland and streamers pack, which can be hung throughout the classroom.
Astrobrights Card Stock
To really make your Glow Day pop, I use this pack of fluorescent Astrobrights card stock. It works well for the glow day folders, invitations, certificates, center activities, signs and more!
Classroom Glow Day Manipulatives
To complete the different literacy, math, and science Glow Day center activities, you will want to have these classroom Glow Day manipulatives readily available.
Please note, I was really intentional about creating activities that would not require an added expense. Almost all of the activities/centers use common classroom supplies.
Although these are not all necessary, here is a list of the classroom Glow Day supplies I recommend and a sneak peek at how to use them:
Glow Sticks
Not only do we use these glow sticks for several of our Glow Day stations, but after our Glow Day party comes to an end, I like to let students take one or two of them home for fun.
At the “Let’s Glow” science experiment, students make a hypothesis as to what they think will happen when they put the glow stick in cold vs. hot water.
Glow sticks are also used at the “Glow Away Pins” station where they are added to water bottles. Students knock down the pins and complete the subtraction equation.
Empty Water Bottles
You will also need ten empty water bottles for the “Glow Away Pins” decomposing ten station.
In addition to placing a glow stick inside each water bottle, I like to wrap a strip of blacklight tape around the top of each bottle.
Glow in the Dark Ball
Although any ball will do, these glow-in-the-dark basketballs, or even a fluorescent tennis ball, help make the glow bowling a little more magical.
Glow Bracelets
Another fun math activity is this “Shape Builder” activity, where students build 2D shapes with glow bracelets.
They can also use glow bracelets to build the letters of the alphabet or sight words.
Blacklight & Glow in the Dark Dice
To complete several of the classroom Glow Day math stations, the students will need dice. For an additional glowing effect, I use these blacklight dice or these glow in the dark dice.
Blacklight Playing Cards
These blacklight playing cards are perfect for flipping and adding 1, subtracting 1, adding or comparing two numbers. For a more affordable option, simply print the playing cards included with the classroom Glow Day activities on fluorescent card stock.
Glow in the Dark Cups
These glow in the dark cups are a must for this “Glow Words” activity.
To make the word family cups, write the letters along the edge of one cup and the word family rime on another cup. Then, stack the cups together.
Highlighters
Highlighters are just a fun writing tool in general, but they are extra fun when they glow from the blacklight! You will want to have a class set of yellow highlighters on hand for both the math and literacy stations.
This “Glow in Order” math activity, require students to sequence the numbers from 1-100, and then use a highlighter to fill in the missing numbers on the 100s chart.
The students will also need a highlighter for this “Glow Letters” activity and “Glow Numbers” activity where they work on both letter and number formation using a highlighter.
An invisible ink pen also helps increase student engagement when completing the “Glowing Digraphs” write the room activity.
Neon Play Dough
Play Dough is always a favorite in the classroom so when it glows, the students get extra excited!
The students use neon yellow, green, orange or pink play dough to build each CVC word with this “CVC Glow Words” activity.
