November Fine Motor Activities for Math
These November fine motor activities for math are not only great for morning tubs, but they can also be used for centers, early finisher activities, or as fine motor bins throughout the day.
Plus, all of these November fine motor activities use common classroom supplies!
Fine Feathers
Work on 1:1 counting by having the students add paper clip feathers to each numbered turkey.
Sort the Feathers
Strengthen those pincer muscles by having the students clip the correct colored clothespin feather to the correct colored turkey face.
Turkey Trot
Of all the November fine motor activities for math, this Turkey Trot activity is a class favorite! The students roll the die and count that many spaces on the number line. The first person to reach the number 20 wins!
Fancy Feathers
Play dough is a great tool for strengthening finger and hand muscles. For this number recognition and number formation activity, the students build the number out of play dough and then add that many feathers on the turkey.
Count the Cream
To work on 1:1 counting, use tweezers to place the appropriate number of whipped cream dollops (white pom poms) on each pie slice.
Stack the Hay
Another great activity for 1:1 counting and building muscle control is this “Stack the Hay” activity. Students snap the cubes to create a stack of hay that matches the correct number of hay bales on the card.
Piles of Leaves
Practice subitizing with this “Piles of Leaves” activity. Students link the leaves to the correct leaf bag.
Harvest Addition
For this center, the students will flip two cards and then add that many fruits or vegetables to the bushel baskets with tweezers and pom poms. Once they have modeled the addition problem, they will complete the number sentence.
Counting Cornucopias
To practice ordering numbers 1-20, the students will order the cornucopias, as they clip them to a piece of string or twine.
Football Patterns
With football season in full swing this time of the year, the students will love building and extending each pattern with the use of tweezers and football pom poms.
Pattern Block Pictures
Students love using pattern blocks to build different creations, so of course this is one of those November fine motor activities that is a class favorite. Using the key on the mat, students roll a die and select the corresponding shape to add to the picture. They keep rolling and building until the picture is complete!
November Fine Motor Activities for Literacy
The November fine motor activities for literacy are just as much fun as the math activities! Here is a sneak peek at the ten literacy activities, plus two bonus activities.
CVC Trees
During this literacy activity, the students will use chain links to build a variety of CVC words.
Turkey Builder
Put all of those extra regular-sized and mini-sized popsicle sticks to good use, as students construct each letter with this “Turkey Builder” activity.
Turkey Baker Maze
Students are really forced to concentrate, as they carefully place bingo chips (or any other small maniuplative) on the letters in ABC order in order to help the turkey find the oven.
Cornucopia Clip
With regular-sized clothespins or with mini-sized clothespins (who doesn’t love the mini version?!), the students will clip the beginning sound of the picture inside the cornucopia.
ABC Hay Ride
The students will link the uppercase and/or lowercase letters in ABC order with this “ABC Hay Ride” activity!
Feasting on Words
Keep those chain links handy, as students will need them to build a variety of sight words.
Scarecrow Sticks
To work on letter recognition, the students will clip the correct scarecrow stick (letter) on the scarecrow, matching upper to upper, lower to lower, or upper to lower.
Popsicle Stick Pictures
This fine motor activity is the perfect way to practice simple sentences. After building each design with popsicle sticks, the students will read and/or trace each sentence.
Falling for Pom Poms
“Falling for Pom Poms” really works on building those pincer muscles, as students use tweezers and pom poms to create a picture. After the picture is complete, they will trace the word with a dry erase marker. This is a fun way to tie in some new November vocabulary words.
Smashing Syllables
If smashing is involved, kids are all in! After building each picture using play dough, the students will smash the number of syllables they hear.
Torn Turkey
This adorable Torn Turkey activity is great for building muscles in the hands and fingers, as the students tear tiny pieces of construction paper and glue them inside the turkey.
