Description

Help build number sense, number fluency and subitizing skills with rekenreks! Use these cards alone or with a rekenrek board! Plus, includes a response sheet! Perfect for whole group instruction, as a center activity, or with small group intervention!

For whole group instruction, these cards can be used for fluency practice (subitizing) at the beginning of your math lesson. Simply flash the card real quickly, and then ask the class what they saw on the card. Some students may automatically give you the sum of the top and bottom row. In this case, I will ask how they knew it was that particular number.

During small group instruction, discuss what number you see on each row and what total number this makes. I also like to rebuild the rekenrek using unifix cubes or some other manipulative. If the rekenrek showed 1 + 3, the students would use one red cube and three of another color. Students will then write the number sentence.

I have also included a response sheet! The students can color the rekenrek to match the card, and then write the number sentence!

Hey, I’m Ashley

SO GLAD YOUโ€™RE HERE!

Hey, teacher friend! Iโ€™m Ashley, a passionate Kindergarten teacher dedicated to creating an enriching and playful learning experience for our littlest learners.

Since beginning my teaching career in 2004, Iโ€™ve become a connoisseur of teacher pens and markers, as well as a master actress, turning ordinary moments and objects into extraordinary teaching experiences and tools.

To me, the best learning involves integrated activities and, of course, a cute craft with a purpose. I believe the words “fun, play, and creativity” can sit right alongside the words “developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.” Learning is meant to be fun and messy!

So, whether we’re knee-deep in glitter or orchestrating a symphony of giggles during story time, letโ€™s keep our little learners SHARP together!
