Use the cards alone (like the first picture), or with a CVC word slider (like the second picture). Have the students touch the color coded dots and say the sound of each letter. Remind them that green is the beginning sound, yellow is the middle, and red is the ending sound. The color coded letters help with reading left to right. If you are using the CVC word slider, the students will slide one bead for each phoneme. After sliding all three beads and saying all three phonemes, they will push the beads back and say the word. Use the CVC word cards with pictures to provide extra support.

I’m a reading therapist, and I’m currently using these with a student who is having an extraordinary difficult time with blending. These cards have been perfect. Using the cards with picture support builds her confidence before she works with the cards with no pictures. I loved the idea of also using colored beads, and I have added green, yellow, and red unification cubes so that she sounds out each word 3 times, which is great, especially for those she has difficulty with.

I think these cards would also be great for independent or partner practice. Thank you for a great product!

These were a solid addition into my pre-k/kindergarten curriculum. I needed this resource to visually help my students connect with hearing and sounding out words. I was so excited when I found these and they have been used for several years in my small group lessons. Thank you so much!
