Nothing says fall quite like pumpkins! As soon as October arrives, I love bringing all things pumpkin into the classroom. These pumpkin centers for kindergarten are the perfect companion to your hands-on pumpkin investigation activities while giving students plenty of opportunities to practice important skills. With 15 hands-on activities, this collection of pumpkin centers and fine motor activities can easily be used during math centers, literacy centers, morning tubs, or as early finisher activities. Students will practice essential math and literacy skills while also strengthening their fine motor skills!

These pumpkin centers for kindergarten are extremely versatile! Not only can you use them for centers, but you can also use them for morning tubs or as early finisher activities!

Count the Pumpkin Seeds

Students will count the pumpkin seeds inside each pumpkin while practicing one-to-one correspondence and counting numbers 1–10.

Popsicle Stick Pumpkins

In this math center, students will build the numbers 1–10 using standard and mini craft sticks. Then, they will place the corresponding number of pumpkin seeds inside each pumpkin. If you don’t have pumpkin seeds, pom-poms, buttons, or mini cotton balls make great substitutes.

Adding Pumpkins

At this center, students will be adding within five. There are ten different equations for students to complete. The equations have a pumpkin vine under each addend. Student can use the vine to model the equation with small manipulatives, such as mini erasers, pom-poms, etc.

Building Pumpkins

In this math center, students will strengthen number sense by matching the numeral, finger count, and ten frame for numbers 1–10 to complete each pumpkin.

Pumpkin Shapes

Students will strengthen their 2D shape recognition skills by identifying the shape on each pumpkin and clipping a clothespin to the correct matching shape on the side of the card.

Colorful Pumpkins

For this pumpkin center, students will sort beads by color.

Pumpkin Patch Shapes

Students will use chain links to connect the correct pumpkins to each vine.

Stacking Pumpkins

For this 1:1 counting activity, students will use snap cubes to stack the correct number of pumpkins

7 Literacy Pumpkin Centers for Kindergarten

The eight literacy pumpkin centers are just as engaging as the math pumpkin centers. Here’s a sneak peek at all 7 pumpkin center activities.

Pumpkin Words

In this literacy center, students will tap each pumpkin seed to say the letter sounds, blend the sounds together to read the CVC word, and then find the matching pumpkin.

Pick the Pumpkins

At this center, students will sort CVC words based on their rime. There are five different word families, including -at, -et, -it, -ot, and -ut.

Pumpkin Patch Sounds

Students will identify the beginning sound of each picture and place the matching pumpkin in the correct pumpkin patch.

Cafe Rhymes

To practice rhyming, students will match a pumpkin spice cup and a pumpkin muffin to make a rhyming pair.

Pumpkin Word Families

Students will use tweezers to place pom poms on the pictures that belong to the word family.

Pumpkin Patch Syllables

Students will roll three balls of play dough and place one ball inside each pumpkin. Then, they will smash one pumpkin for each syllable they hear in the word.

Pumpkin Seed Sounds

For this beginning sound activity, students will use tweezers to place pom poms on the correct pumpkin seeds.
