Math December Centers for Kindergarten

Marshmallow Modeling

For this center, students will model numbers 11-20 on ten frames. To model each number, they can use any small manipulative, such as mini marshmallows, pom poms, linking cubes, mini erasers, etc.

Winter Roll & Graph

Students will roll the die to determine which winter clothing item to color on the graph. They will continue to roll until one of the columns reaches the top of the graph.

Counting Gumdrops

During this center, students will count on from a given number. They will start with the number on the large gumdrop and count on to determine the total number of gumdrops.

Snowman Sequencing

At this center, students will identify the missing number in a sequence. There are four numbers in each sequence, with the numbers extending from 0-20.

Snowflake Addition

Students will add one to each number to find the sum. They will match each addition number sentence with the correct snowman sum.

Freezing Ten

At this center, students will make ten by filling in the remainder of the ten frame with snowballs.

Scooping Snowballs

During this center, students will practice 1:1 counting. They will count the number of snowballs on the shovel cards and match the correct snow pile to each group of snowballs.

Cocoa Addition

At this center, students will be adding within ten. There are ten different equations for students to complete. The students will model the addition sentence play placing the marshmallows (or any small manipulative) on the mug.

Snowman Heights

Students will use a unit of nonstandard measurement to measure the height of each snowman.

Winter Comparing

At this center, students will compare two groups of objects by determining which group has more or which group has less.

Feeding Rhymes

The students will read the CVC word and match the word to the rhyming feed sack at this fun rhyming center!

Gingerbread Letters

Students will practice ABC order by filling in the missing gingerbread trees on the alphabet mat. This activity includes both uppercase and lowercase letters, giving learners meaningful practice with sequencing the alphabet.

Sledding Sentences

At this center, students will read ten decodable sentences. To build comprehension, they will match the sentence to the correct picture.

Gingerbread Match Up

In this center, students will match uppercase and lowercase letters to complete each gingerbread man.

Missing Marshmallows

This CVC word center includes three different versions. The students will identify either the missing beginning sound, missing ending sounds, or all three sounds.

Word Family Snow Forts

Students will sort each snow block to the correct word family snow fort. This center focuses on the following CVC word families: -an, -et, -in, -og, and -ug.

Waddling with Syllables

Students will identify the number of syllables in each word by clipping a clothespin to the correct number on the side of the card.

Snowman Sight Words

Students will roll play dough and form the letters on the sight word mat. An editable version of this center is also included for you to add your own sight words.

Snowplow Vowels

Students will sort CVC words based on the vowel sound by matching each snow pile to the correct snowplow.

Snowman Spelling

This CVC word center includes three different versions. The students will use magnetic letters to identify either the missing beginning sound, missing ending sound, or all three sounds.
