April Fine Motor Activities for Math
These April fine motor activities for math are not only great for spring morning tubs, but they can also be used for spring centers, early finisher activities, or as fine motor bins throughout the day.
Lengthy Stems
Blooming flowers are a clear sign that spring has arrived!
Students first order the flowers from the shortest to the tallest and then measure the stems using linking cubes.

Counting Raindrops
Work on number recognition and formation with play dough! Students form each number and then place the correct number of raindrops on each umbrella.

Caterpillar Patterns
The students strengthen their pincer grasp and hand-eye coordination as they tweeze pom pom balls to build and extend each pattern on the caterpillar.

Ten Fram Umbrellas
April showers, bring May flowers! For this fine motor activity, the students will clip the correct umbrella handle (number) to each umbrella ten frame.

Egg-cellent Colors
Students will get egg-cited for this April fine motor activity as they sort the eggs (pony beads) by color and string them onto the correct pipe cleaner.

Busy Bees
This is one of those April fine motor activities that requires a partner. To play, the students spin the spinner and move their bee forward or backward that many spaces on the number line. The first person to reach the number 20 is the winner!

Bye Bye Birdie
The students strengthen their hand muscles as they punch out the correct number of birds and write the difference in the box provided. At the end of this April fine motor activity, the students will be able to stack and staple the pages into a book.

Lightning Lengths
Working on 1:1 counting is electrifying (see what I did there?!) with this April fine motor activity! Students hook the correct number of links to build each lightning bolt!

Feed the Bunny
With tweezers and pom poms, students get to work on adding within 5. The students will feed the bunny the correct number of each color carrot and then complete the number sentence.

Bird Nest Bonds
Keep those tweezers and pom poms handy for this number bonds activity! The student will roll two dice, add that many “eggs” to the work mat, and write the number sentence using a dry erase marker.

Pattern Block Pictures
Pattern blocks are a math manipulative favorite, so of course this is a top pick among students! For this April fine motor activity, the students roll a die, and add that shape to the design. They continue rolling and building until the design is complete.

April Fine Motor Activities for Literacy
While the April fine motor activities for math are always a hit, let’s not forget about these hands-on April fine motor activities for literacy!
CVC Bunnies
Work on building CVC words with chain links for this literacy activity!

CVC Trees
This is another great CVC word activity, but this time instead of building the entire CVC word, the students get to wok on identifying and clipping the middle sound to the tree.

Raindrop Rimes
Get those chain links back out for this CVC word family activity! The students get to link each raindrop to the correct word family cloud.

Beginning Sound Bunnies
This morning tub activity is not only great for identifying beginning sounds, it is also great for working on upper and lowercase letters. The students will listen to the beginning sound and clip the correct “bunny ears” on each bunny.

Bunny Blends
Hop on over to this morning tub where students listen for the beginning blend and cover the egg with the appropriate colored pom pom.

Rhyming Chickens
A fun way to work on rhyming is this rhyming chickens center! Students punch the eggs that rhyme with each picture inside the chicken.

Chick Digraphs
For this morning tub, the students listen for the beginning digraph and link the eggs to the correct chick.

Shinning Alphabet
Keep those chain links handy to work on ABC order with this Shinning Alphabet activity!

Spring Connections
Students snap cubes to strengthen fine motor muscles, as well as create a spring themed picture! Then, they trace the word with a dry erase marker.

Springtime Syllables
This is one of my students’ favorite April fine motor activities! They love building each picture with play dough, and they especially enjoy smashing the number of syllables they hear.

Egg-cellent Designs
For this bonus April fine motor activity, the students trace the line on each egg using play dough or a dry erase marker.
