I utilized this resource with the mentor text “The Day the Crayons Quit” to create a bulletin board based on student’s favorite colors. We also created a graph of our favorite colors using the bulletin board. It was easy for the students to put together once tracer templates were used on the construction paper to create their crayon.

My students loved this resource! I use these type of activities in my station rotations during guided reading time. Students love the hands on aspect of this activity. It’s a great way to tie in our writing skills with some fine motor practice! We use this activity during our opinion writing unit. We read the day the crayons quit and then students are able to tell which color is the best or which crayon was justified in leaving! This is always a big hit!
