Description

Celebrate the end of the year countdown with an Ice Cream Day! These ice cream activities review math and literacy skills, all with a mysterious twist! With the ice cream theme centers from The Ice Cream Shop Mystery End of the Year Escape Room, your students will be highly engaged as they complete 6 or 8 different challenges to eliminate the suspects and discover who has stolen the sundae supplies!

These Ice Cream Day Escape Room activities can be used for an Ice Cream Day, an End of Year Party or end of the year ice cream themed math and literacy centers.

Make the end of the year a memorable (and learning-filled) celebration with these ice cream day end of the year escape room activities!

Set the stage with a note from the ice cream shop attendant:

I have a special treat.

Yes, it is true.

But first I need,

Some help from you!

The supplies are lost,

As you can see.

Who has them?

It’s a mystery!

Solve each challenge,

Along the way.

So we can build,

A big sundae!

After the students complete each challenge, they will receive a clue from the culprit. A suspect will be eliminated after each challenge. Once all of the ice cream day centers have been completed, they will have eliminated all but one suspect!

There are 4 math and 4 literacy ice cream theme centers included. Black and white option included. Targeted skills:

  • recognizing rhymes
  • counting syllables
  • identifying digraphs
  • isolating medial sounds
  • 1:1 counting and subitizing numbers 1-10
  • adding fluently within 6
  • modeling subtraction problems
  • extending patterns

The Challenges:

  1. Spoon Challenge – Count the syllables for each picture.
  2. Sundae Challenge – Use ice cream scoops to model each number sentence. Solve the problem and write the answer.
  3. Milkshake Challenge – Listen for the beginning digraph (ch, sh, th, wh), and sort each picture under the correct milkshake.
  4. Scoop Challenge – Count the scoops and match it to the correct ten frame cone.
  5. Truck Challenge – Listen for the middle sound, and sort each picture under the correct ice cream truck.
  6. Sprinkles Challenge – Model the subtraction problem by covering the correct number of sprinkles. Solve the problem and write the answer.
  7. Cone Challenge – Match the pictures that rhyme to build each ice cream cone.
  8. Popsicle Challenge – Say the pattern. Then, extend each pattern.

I was so excited to see this resource. It was such a great way to end our year and all topics were great review from skills we learned! The 8 clue option was perfect for 2 days, since the end of the year has extra activities that interrupt our normal day. Cannot wait to use next year!

  4. Ashley S. –

    My kids loveddddddd this

  5. Kali Kinder Krew –

    Thank you!

  6. Jessica G. –

Did this at the end of the year with my preschoolers and they loved it!

  7. Stacey S. –

My students had a lot of fun with this resource. The were super motivated to complete the activities so that they could get clues to solve the mystery. It was a great way to review the skills that they have learned this year. We completed the activity the last week of school, so it was a fun way to celebrate our learning! After they solved the mystery we found the missing items from the Ice Cream shop and built our own ice cream sundaes. It gave them so much joy. I definitely will use this activity again next year!

  8. Julie O. –

Great end of the year review activities! I hope more are made and perhaps some that will stretch to grade 1, so I can use it with my K/1 split next year. 🙂

  15. Mackenzie P. –

My students love all of One Sharp Bunch’s escape rooms! This was was, like all the others, perfectly put together and easy to use. I love that there is the option of a worksheet, but mostly I just use the hands on activities with my students. They LOVE trying to guess who they think the thief is. They have so much fun trying to figure it out!

  16. Jenilee B. –

We loved using this resource, some of the tasks were a little easy for my 1st graders, BUT they absolutely LOVED it and were SO engaged all day!

  17. Lindsey D. –

This was a great end of the year activity to do with my first graders! Most of the skills are a little low for my end of the year first graders, but were still engaging and memorable!

  18. Laura Oughton –

My students LOVED this activity. We did it on the last full day of school. It worked perfectly because we were having an ice cream party on this day. My students were so excited to cross off the “suspect” after completing each activity.
