Hey, I’m Ashley

SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE!

Hey, teacher friend! I’m Ashley, a passionate Kindergarten teacher dedicated to creating an enriching and playful learning experience for our littlest learners.

Since beginning my teaching career in 2004, I’ve become a connoisseur of teacher pens and markers, as well as a master actress, turning ordinary moments and objects into extraordinary teaching experiences and tools.

To me, the best learning involves integrated activities and, of course, a cute craft with a purpose. I believe the words “fun, play, and creativity” can sit right alongside the words “developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.” Learning is meant to be fun and messy!

So, whether we’re knee-deep in glitter or orchestrating a symphony of giggles during story time, let’s keep our little learners SHARP together!

Practice scissor skills with the simple mosaic Eas Practice scissor skills with the simple mosaic Easter egg craft!

For this craft, I trace an egg outline onto black construction paper. Then, I give the students a strip of few different colors. I show them how to snip the strip into smaller pieces.

Next, I demonstrate how to glue the pieces onto the egg, explaining how to overlap the pieces. I like to show the students that they can make stripes, zigzags, or wavy lines. They can even glue their pieces sporadically like a mosaic.

Drop me a 🐰 if you’d like me to share more spring crafts!

Do you read the story “How To Catch a Leprechaun” Do you read the story “How To Catch a Leprechaun” by Adam Wallace for St. Patrick’s Day? It has always been a crowd favorite with my students!

In the story, the kids work hard to create the perfect leprechaun trap, which is the perfect segue into procedural writing!

First, I have my students devise a plan for trapping the leprechaun. We use the language “first, next, then, last.”

Then, we get to work on writing the steps for how to catch the leprechaun.

Of course, we turn this procedural writing into an adorable leprechaun craft that we hang in the hallway!

Isn’t he so cute?!

If you’d like to use this little cutie to help introduce or review how-to writing, he’s just $1 during the Lucky Dollar Deals sale!

While St. Patrick’s Day may not be a major school While St. Patrick’s Day may not be a major school celebration, I enjoy infusing some leprechaun-inspired fun and other St. Patrick’s Day activities into my lesson plans. Instead of creating cumbersome leprechaun traps, I encourage students to devise their own written plans for trapping the tricky leprechaun!

After reading the story How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace, we record our ideas for trapping these clever creatures on our anchor chart.

I prep the ‘bones’ for this anchor ahead time, including the title, transition words, and cute leprechaun picture.
